The US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley decided to leave her position, and President Donald Trump confirmed her resignation in the Oval Office on Tuesday. “She has done a fantastic job and we’ve done a fantastic job together. We’ve solved a lot of problems and we’re in the process of solving a lot of problems,” the President said.
President Trump also said that he will welcome Haley back in any capacity in his administration. However, Haley said that she is more interested of the private sector.
The President and Haley had a joint press conference related to her resignation. Haley used the opportunity to praise the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump. “I can’t say enough good thinks about Jared and Ivanka Trump. Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands,” she said. Haley credits Jared for renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal last week.
The ambassador also called Ivanka a “great friend.”
“They do a lot of things behind the scenes that I wish more people knew about. We’re a better country because they’re in this administration,” she noted.
Haley’s praise for the President’s daughter made people talk of the possibility that Ivanka may easily step into the ambassador’s role. Ann Colter added fuel to the fire by tweeting that “Trump should replace Nikki Haley with Ivanka.”
The rumors are still alive, and the President talked how he will decide upon Haley’s successor within three weeks. He also said that Ivanka would do a great job as US Ambassador to the United Nations. However, the President is well aware of the fact that such move would actually violate nepotism laws.
“I’m not sure there’s anybody more competent in the world, but that’s OK. But we are looking at numerous people,” President Trump said.
Ivanka dispelled the rumors. “It is an honor to serve in the White House alongside so many great colleagues and I know that the President will nominate a formidable replacement for Ambassador Haley. That replacement will not be me,” she tweeted.
