Marine Cpl. Richard Bennett lost his life in Iraq in a helicopter crash. The marine was just 25 at the time he lost his life. His family was grieving for their terrible loss. The family and citizens of Girard, Kansas, were getting ready to pay one last tribute to their loved Marine, and say their last ‘goodbye,’ but a bunch of ignorant members of Westboro decided to protest at the funeral.
According to this group, God kills soldiers because of our country’s acceptance of homosexuality. The Marine’s family was devastated to hear all those people saying those ugly things. You do not spread hate at Funerals. But the group did not have things their way.
The Patriot Guard Riders is a group of veterans and motorcycle enthusiasts. They attended the funeral same as every other funeral of a fallen soldier. They even protect grieving families from people like these members of the Westboro Baptist Church.
The Patriot Guard Riders always pay respect to soldiers. They have their bikes and bodies to make sure everything goes in order and stop hateful groups from spreading their cruel thoughts.
The Marine’s family was relieved to see the Guard attending the funeral of their beloved son. Hundreds of bikers arrived in the town, and shut down the voices of the Westboro members. Their disturbing chants were brought to an end thanks to the rumble of the bikes and the patriotic music.
The bikers even formed a wall to stop protesters away from the Bennett family. That’s how you protect those who mean to you.
“No family should have to face this type of hatred on the day that they’re putting their loved ones to rest,” said Ken Van, a United Methodist pastor and a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Thank you, Patriots, for your love and protection!
